JCW Vibrablock is a versatile, multi purpose soundproofing and vibration absorbing mat made from recycled rubber.

It is very effective when used as part of a direct to wall soundproofing system. This system involves involves gluing and screwing an initial layer of 20mm JCW Vibrablock, acting as a high mass rubber sound barrier, on to the existing party wall surface and then covering it with a double layer of 12.5mm JCW Acoustic Plasterboard.

This product combination is highly recommended for noisy neighbour situations and once applied has minimal impact on available room space.

At the heart of this system, the high density 20mm thick JCW Vibrablock rubber based sound barrier mat is structured to absorb and block a significant amount of airborne noise which can easily penetrate poorly insulated party walls.

On top of this two layers of 12.5mm JCW Acoustic Plasterboard are then applied.

A simple to fit direct to wall system for existing stud walls and solid walls.

In summary this is a highly flexible and easy to install direct to wall solution which will combat normal levels of noise expected from noisy neighbours.

Alternatively JCW Vibrablock can be used on its own as a sound deadening barrier or anti vibration and anti fatigue mat.

DIY Installation Guide to using JCW Vibrablock and JCW Acoustic Plasterboard as part of an acoustic soundproofing wall system solution


Step 1: Ensure the wall to be treated does not have any gaps or holes which will allow sound to leak in

Step 2: Where the party wall to be soundproofed is directly under a loft, like a bedroom in a bungalow, or attic space in a house, check by looking into the loft space that the party wall in question continues on up through the ceiling level and all the way to the roof. If it does not, building a wall up to the underside of the roof is recommended for maximum acoustic performance.

Step 3: Ensure the entire product supplied is dry and stored correctly before commencing. The JCW Acoustic Plasterboard must be stored flat as should the JCW Vibrablock. All of the products ideally should be at normal room temperature before work begins. If the work is being conducted in an unheated room and it is cold, this will affect the drying time of the adhesive which will take longer. Installation must never commence in damp conditions or conditions that can encourage condensation!

Step 4: Before using the JCW Spray on Adhesive, shake the can well and follow the instructions, first making sure the JCW Vibrablock mat is clean and dust and dirt free


Step 1. Ensure the wall to be treated is flat and even and remove skirting boards. If it has been ‘wet’ plastered, tap it to check the plaster has not ‘blown’. Tap it lightly with a screwdriver handle and if the plaster is coming away from the wall it will sound hollow. It may also ‘give’ when pressure is put on it. If blown plaster is found it should be chipped off, replaced and allowed to thoroughly dry before any further work commences.

Step 2. Remove any electrical fittings. (A qualified electrician should do this). If any electrical fittings are required on the finished wall, the wiring should be adjusted to compensate for this by the electrician before the hole is filled in.

Step 3. Before starting, if the party wall is a stud wall, locate the position of existing timber stud battens either by using a digital joist finder or penetrating the plaster surface with a thin sharp screwdriver or bradawl until solid tresistance is met. The position of other stud battens can now be marked which will usually be located 400mm to the left or right.

Step 4. Glue bond and screwfix with appropriate length screws the JCW Vibrablock panels to the wall using the JCW Spray on Adhesive, starting from the floor and working along, finishing each row before moving on the next row. Leave a 5mm perimeter gap (around the wall, floor and ceiling edge) which will later be filled with acoustic sealant. Spray the JCW Vibrablock one panel at a time and then immediately spray the corresponding area of wall and then bond and screw the panel to the wall. Continue in this manner across the entire wall surface wall to wall and floor to ceiling. Close but the product as tightly as possible leaving no gaps. When cutting a mat or panel, use a jigsaw then use the off cut to start the next row. Simply cut a slit in the mat where electrical wiring has to come through.

Step 5. Glue and screw the first layer of JCW Acoustic Plasterboard to the JCW Vibrablock mat panels using the same adhesive and in the same manner by spraying the panel first then the corresponding area of wall and bonding and screwing them immediately together, taking care to position the panel correctly first time. When fixing these panels, be sure to keep a small gap (minimum 5mm) all around the perimeter between the panels and floor, ceiling and internal corners. Thin packing pieces can be used at floor level to achieve this and can be removed afterwards. Cut a small hole in any panel for wiring and ensure positioning of the hole is correct before gluing up the plasterboard sheet and sticking it to the wall.

Step 6. When the first layer of plasterboard has been fixed, the second layer can be bonded and screwed in the same manner, but use the off-cuts from the first layer to start the second layer and be sure to keep the same 5mm gap around the edges. For the second layer, overlap the joints of the first layer.

Step 7. Holes for electrical fittings can now be cut out of the JCW Acoustic Plasterboard back to the JCW Vibrablock but not through it. A shallow back box should be glued into the hole against the JCW Vibrablock using a proprietary construction adhesive such as Gripfill.

Step 8. Now add a plaster skim to finish the wall, ensure the gap around the perimeter of the wall is maintained and not filled in with the plaster. When the plaster skim has dried, infill the 5mm perimeter gap with our flexible JCW Acoustic Sealant, smooth off, allow to dry then decorate.


Skirting boards can be replaced using a good adhesive. It is advisable not to use mechanical fixings. Nails must never be used. Do not bridge the acoustic materials.

Fittings can be attached to the wall using purpose made plasterboard fixings such as self-drive plasterboard fixings.
