JCW Fire and Acoustic Downlighter Covers

Our range of downlighter covers will enhance both the fire and acoustic performance of lighting units fitted to a recess in both timber and concrete ceilings.

Downlighters recessed into ceilings are increasingly popular with homeowners looking to improve or upgrade their homes. They minimise the resultant loss of acoustic integrity when the hole for the downlighter is cut into the ceiling.

Fire and acoustic downlighter covers are already widely used in public and commercial buildings to maintain the essential fire rating, where it is needed, and they also help maintain the acoustic integrity of a construction.

The JCW Fire and Acoustic Downlighter Cover has been specially developed to offer easy-fit, maximum protection for holes created for downlighter installation. That’s because in a fire situation, the cover itself expands internally to fill all the available space with a highly insulating fire resistant char.

Thus the fire is unable to penetrate the hole and the cover is able to give additional fire insulation protection to the ceiling void by reducing the chance of heat build up and the subsequent ignition of any flammable materials, such as accumulated dust and debris.

Our hoods are manufactured in a wide variety of sizes to suit the cut-out or aperture.

DIY Installation Guide for Small, Medium and Large Fire & Acoustic Downlighter Covers

Step 1. Grasp legs firmly and roll cover into a tight cylinder. Ensure wiring loom is through slot before installation.

Step 2. Keeping a tight grip on the legs, feed the cover through the cut-out already made for the downlighter.

Step 3. Ensure cover has sprung back into its original cone shape.
    a) Grasp legs and pull down until “L” section clears underside of the ceiling.
    b) Move legs out until vertical part of “L” section is flush with the underside of the cut-out.

Step 4. Release legs so that they grip the underside of the tile. Remove the excess of both legs. Cut at point “A”. Once cover is in place, downlighter can be fitted as normal.

DIY Installation Guide for X-Large and XX-Large Fire & Acoustic Downlighter Covers

Step 1. Flatten the cover as shown.

Step 2. Fold the cover into quarters by folding it in half once…and then folding it in half again.

Step 3. Pass the folded cover through the aperture.

Step 4. Then fit the downlighter cover as per the downlighter manufacturer’s instructions – cables can be pushed through the vent slots in the cover. Check and ensure that there is a minimum of 20mm clearance between the downlighter and any insulation or acoustic filling in the void.

Please note: Remote gearboxes and transformers must be situated outside of the downlighter cover.
