JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab

This acoustic grade rock mineral wool slab absorbs airborne sound in the cavity partitions of timber and metal party walls, significantly improving acoustic performance and reducing reverberation.

A flexible acoustic grade mineral wool, JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab is supplied in packs of easy to handle 1200mm x 600mm slabs, in a variety of thicknesses.

It can be installed in the cavity spaces of walls, floors and ceilings. An efficient noise absorber which easily outperforms standard mineral wool insulation because it is more than twice the density!

Its use only adds minimally to the overall mass of the structure.

It can also be used between flooring joists and in ceilings as a sound absorbing infill to reduce airborne noise. It is supplied un-faced.

About JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab

At 45 kg per m3 weight, this JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab is more than twice the density of typical loft insulation products. Its combination of acoustic, thermal and fire retardant properties helps explain why this product is widely used as a key insulating material across the building industry in all types of constructions.
The JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab complements the plasterboard of the partition wall by not just by absorbing airborne sound, but also by reducing the hollow sound that can sometimes occur in unfilled cavities. JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab has exceptional acoustic absorption properties, provides good thermal insulation and is both fire retardant and moisture resistant.

DIY Installation Guide for JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab in stud walls

    • General precautions: because this product can cause irritation to the skin, suitable protective wear like gloves and eye goggles should always be used when handling and working with it.
    • Cutting the slab: This mineral wool can be easily cut to any size/shape using a sharp long bladed knife. The knife should be re-sharpened often to maintain performance.
    • Fitting the slab: Always avoid cutting the insulation to a tight fit because this will affect acoustic performance. A loose fit will always give better sound control. Fit the slab between the studs using as many layers as the cavity will allow to further enhance acoustic performance (where cavity space is limited, you could consider fitting as an alternative our JCW High Performance Acoustic Quilt, a premium acoustic partition roll giving around four times the sound absorption of standard mineral wool at a thickness of just 52mm).
    • Fixing the slab: JCW Acoustic Easy Fit Mineral Wool Slab is installed in a similar way to standard glass fibre insulation rolls. It is designed to be suspended and fiction fitted between the studs in metal or timber partitioning systems, suspended between the joists of a timber floor or laid over ceilings. Where necessary, JCW Spray Contact Adhesive will help the insulation stay in place until the wall covering is added.
    • Multiple layers of slab can be used, for increased acoustic and thermal performance, where space allows.
    • Fitting resilient bars: When including JCW Resilient Bars, install them at 600mm centres across all the studwork from the bottom to the top before covering with plasterboard to finish
